EDM is a process that uses electrical energy for processing. The tool and the workpiece are not in direct contact but rely on the pulsed spark discharge that is continuously generated between the two to achieve the effect of etching metal materials.

During the EDM process, the instantaneous temperature of the discharge area can reach up to 10,000°C, melting high-hardness metals, generating gasification, and etching away excess materials. In the processing of automobile air duct molds, a pulse power supply must be used, and the tool electrode and the processed surface of the workpiece must be able to maintain a certain gap. This process needs to be carried out in a liquid medium with insulating properties.
