Checking Fixture

A checking fixture is a tool used to inspect engine parts. It can simulate the position and posture of various components during engine operation according to engine design requirements, detect and calibrate the size, position, assembly relationship, etc. of the components.

Automobile Checking Fixtures: Design and Manufacturing Requirements

The standard parts of automobile checking fixtures are inspection equipment used to measure and evaluate the dimensional quality of parts. Accurately install the parts on the checking fixture, and then check the part surface and periphery by visual inspection, stop gauge, or caliper. You can also use the inspection pin or visual inspection to check the holes of different properties on the parts and the connection positions between parts.

Automobile Checking Fixtures Types

Angle measurement tool: a fixture testing used to measure the angles between parts. They usually consist of a rotating platform, an angle ruler, and a data acquisition system, which can help detect whether the installation position of automobile parts is correct.

Dimension measurement tool: used to measure the length, width, height, and other dimensions of automobile parts. These tools usually include equipment such as calipers, vernier calipers, and projectors to ensure that the product meets the specifications.

Functional test tool: used to test whether the functions of automobile parts are normal. For example, the brake disc test bench can simulate the braking conditions under driving conditions and determine the service life and performance of the brake disc.

Design Requirements for Automobile Checking Fixtures

All drawings should be 1:1 size with the entity, and the dimensions can be marked. In addition:

  1. All automotive checking fixture part drawings must be drawn in three views and must be marked with finished surfaces and/or body and/or work reference lines.
  1. All section drawings should indicate the section number and page number corresponding to the lead number of the gauge design drawing.
  1. The automotive checking fixture design drawing must include the outline of the part to be measured on the checking fixture (dashed line). The line should be thick enough to facilitate copying of the drawing.
  1. The automotive checking fixture raw material list should include the dimensions of the raw materials, and all standard parts should be marked with the manufacturer’s name and its catalog model.
  1. Unless it is necessary to clarify manufacturing requirements, the automotive checking fixture part drawing should be separated from the checking fixture assembly drawing.
  1. All dimensions should be expressed in metric, but the raw material dimensions in the automotive checking fixture raw material list may have imperial dimensions.
  1. The automotive checking fixture raw materials (such as angle brackets, stacking blocks, hinges, guides, screws, keys, etc.) should be purchased as much as possible.
  1. The automotive checking fixture design can be computer-aided or hand-drawn on 1.5 translucent paper.
  2.  When selecting materials, guide plates, pins, chucks, etc., the environment in which the automotive checking fixture is used should be considered to ensure that the inspection fixture maintains its original function within the validity period of the current production.
  1.  The positioning reference scheme must be applied to the automotive checking fixture design drawings and the checking fixture. The general concept is: that the measured part is positioned in a three-dimensional space composed of the first positioning surface, the second positioning surface, and the third positioning surface.
  1.  Positioning device for positioning reference hole: The inspection pin that is not used as a positioning device cannot limit the movement of the measured part in any direction other than the specified positioning reference. In this case, guide rails or movable automotive checking fixture parts can be used to allow the measured part to move in non-fixed directions.
  1.  The design of the measuring tool should ensure that each checking fixture part will not exceed the base of the measuring tool in any of its active positions.
  1. There is no need to mark repetition or left-right symmetry in the automotive checking fixture design drawing. When practical, just indicate the unilateral details, and add a note “symmetric to the central axis except for the indicated parts”.

Maintenance Tips for Car-checking Fixtures Manufacturers

  • Basic maintenance of car checking fixtures produced by car checking fixture manufacturers: ensure the exterior cleanliness of the checking fixture simulation block, and pay attention to the cleanliness of the positions of some base plates, latches, and detection pins; put the movable parts to be disassembled in the corresponding positions.
  • Keep the environmental factors of the car checking fixture manufacturer’s car checking fixture dry: the storage temperature of the car checking fixture should be between -10 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius; the humidity should be below 60 degrees; the particulate matter should not exceed 2%.

Maintenance can be done once every six months or one year:

(1) Check the pinhole for wear and tear. If there is a problem, replace it immediately;

(2) Check the precision slide for looseness and add lubricant in time;

(3) Check the marking scale and coating for peeling and wear in time;

(4) Check whether the positioning reference is rusty and worn. If so, replace or polish it immediately;

The automobile checking fixtures are developed according to the special planning and design requirements of the current model. Professional automobile checking fixtures can be used to check their size and size for measurement and evaluation. Automobile checking fixtures are mainly used for the determination and adjustment of mold accuracy in the production preparation stage and the daily management of dimensions after mass production.

The main body of the automobile checking fixture is the main frame of the checking fixture, including the base (reference surface), body surface, and mounting part of the checking fixture. Generally speaking, the base and body surface are made of epoxy resin or aluminum. Because the mold body mounting part must be able to withstand the swing force of the body mounting strength of more than 12N·m (122kgf·cm). When the main body is made of resin, the lamp installation part should be made of metal parts to prevent the lamp from falling off and rotating during installation and removal. Car checking fixture manufacturing is generally divided into aluminum parts, iron parts, or resin. Considering the usual maintenance and service life, users should regularly perform car-checking fixture maintenance.
